Background information: Dr. Kinter offered to provide $5,000 in matching fund for the establishment of a temporarily restricted fund. The fund is to be aligned with the Society's strategic plan, and in accordance with accounting principles.
Whereas the SPS Finance Subcommittee has conferred with the Strategic Planning Subcommittee, the motion was passed on 17 August 2009 to create a temporarily restricted fund which hereafter will be referred to as the "Education Fund" with the purpose of providing members and sponsors the opportunity to underwrite Education programs as determined by the Board of Directors.
Whereas the approve motion passed, the Finance Subcommittee has recommended the establishment of up to $50,000 (from the Reserves) in matching fund for every $1 contribution to the newly established Education Fund. The $50,000 match fund will forthwith be referenced as the 10th Anniversary Matching Fund. It is anticipated that the 10th Anniversary Matching Funds will be used on the basis of $1 of SPS match for each dollar contributed by donors to the same fund as designated by the donor.
The 10th Anniversary Matching Funds will be applied to cash or cash equivalent (such as publicly securities) contributions made in the amount of $1 or more. The 10th Anniversary Matching Funds will not be used for pledges (except if the pledge were fulfilled in the gifting period) or for proceeds from bequests or deferred giving plans. The 10th Anniversary Matching Funds will be used to match both individual and corporate gifts to the SPS Education Fund.
