Invitation to Attend

Invitation to Attend the 2018 SPS Meeting

Dear Colleagues,

On behalf of the Safety Pharmacology Society (SPS) Board of Directors and Officers, we would like to welcome you to the 2018 SPS Annual Meeting at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel in the historic, international city of Washington, DC.

Over the last few months, the 2018 Program and CE Committees have been hard at work organizing scientific programs and courses that include topics of interest to SPS Members and colleagues. The 2018 Scientific Program features a diverse range of scientific sessions organized into two themed tracks and covering issues such as Opiates*, Secondary Pharmacology, Non-opiate Pain Management, Safety Pharmacology/FDA Discussion on GI, CiPA Real-life Implementation, Cardio GPCR*, Cardio-oncology, New Strategies in CNS and Sensory Assessments, Imaging, In Silico, Phase I Trial Design and Translation to Clinical Data, Preclinical to Clinical- Case Studies and much more! This will ensure attendees can stay abreast of new content and developments in key areas of interest.

The meeting also offers a broad Continuing Education program both on an introductory level as well as advanced courses for the expert. A program outline is now available on the 2018 Meeting website. For those interested in increasing their knowledge, recognition and expertise in the field, we will also be holding the 2018 certification exam for the Diplomate in Safety Pharmacology on September 29, and invite all interested SPS members to consider sitting the exam this year.

In an effort to support attendance from our younger colleagues, please note that there are expanded opportunities for Student and Jr. Investigator Travel Awards. Also, please consider submitting an abstract for presentation as a poster. From these submissions a variety will also be selected for short oral communications. The deadline to submit an abstract for presentation is June 15, 2018.

We also would like to highlight our Exhibit Hall, which will feature over 40 vendors offering direct access to CROs, as well as a variety of service and technology providers exhibiting the latest technology and developments relevant to the field.

We cordially invite you to become a member of our Society, become involved in our ongoing scientific activities and join us in Washington, DC for our 2018 Annual Meeting this Fall!

New Member & First-time Attendee Networking Event

Sunday, September 30, 2018 ~ 6:00 PM–6:30 PM

Marriott Wardman Park Hotel
Room: Coolidge
Washington, DC
For all New SPS Members, First-time Meeting attendees and Veteran SPS Members too! On behalf of the SPS Membership Committee we are excited to introduce a program designed to provide enhanced early career support and interaction for new SPS members and first-time meeting attendees. The first step in this outreach effort will occur at the 2018 Annual Meeting in the form of a unique 30-minute welcome event where you, as an early career professional, will receive information on the Society, including opportunities for engagement, and be paired with an SPS “veteran” member who has volunteered their time towards mentorship. This special welcome reception and engagement opportunity is available for first-time annual meeting attendees, as well as members that have joined SPS within the last 3 years.

The goal of the outreach is to educate new members and first-time attendees on the overall value of the Society to them on a personal and professional level, while also affording a valuable opportunity for meaningful learning and career advancement via the establishment of a mentoring relationship. The goal of the mentoring relationship is for the veteran and new member/attendee to have meaningful networking and scientific interactions at the Meeting, but to continue this effort post-meeting. In addition to the networking portion of the event, we will also have some special door prizes and giveaways!

We sincerely hope that you choose to connect with this vital and rewarding opportunity towards learning more about what SPS membership has to offer and networking with long-time SPS members.

If you wish to attend this event, please complete the RSVP form by September 10.
