New Member Benefit—Access to Journal of Pharmacological and Toxicological Methods (JPTM)

Dear Fellow Society Members,

As we move into the middle of 2009, I wanted to update you on some key activities of the Society. The goal of the Board of Directors is to build continual value in being a member of the Society. To this end I am extremely pleased to announce a strategic partnership between the Safety Pharmacology Society and Elsevier, the publisher of the Journal of Pharmacological and Toxicological Methods (JPTM). As you all are aware, the Society and the Journal of Pharmacological and Toxicological Methods have enjoyed an excellent informal partnership over the years. Through the tireless scientific and editorial leadership of Michael Pugsley serving as the guest editor for the JPTM Safety Pharmacology issue for the past several years, we have gained the benefit of having our Annual Meeting abstracts and other directly relevant manuscripts published. Because of the mutual benefit this informal relationship has provided to both Elsevier and the SPS membership, we have taken the next step in formalizing this relationship. Effective in June 2009, the SPS and Elsevier entered into a formal collaborative agreement that will continue the previous informal relationship essentially as you are all accustomed. The important new benefit you will now enjoy as an SPS member is that you now have full access to the JPTM content through a link in the member's only section of the SPS Web site. Please take a moment to explore this new member benefit by clicking the JPTM icon on the right side of the SPS Web site.

I also wanted to remind you all to register for the 9th Annual Meeting of the Safety Pharmacology Society in Strasbourg France September 15th–18th. Registration for the meeting is moving along well in spite of the rough economic times, but we do not want to lose our momentum as we move into the summer vacation season. Please register if you have not yet and tell all your friends about the meeting. As always our meeting will feature an excellent CE program the day prior to the regular meeting with industry leading course instructors. The regular meeting will feature all the science and discussion you have come to expect with a blend of new topics and unique updates on old favorites. In these complicated economic times, an excellent blend of good scientific discussion and networking with new and old friends can be key to assuring success in your personal professional future. Don’t miss this valuable opportunity!

I look forward to seeing you all in Strasbourg in less than 3 months!

Best regards,

Rick Briscoe
2009 President, Safety Pharmacology Society
