Invitation to attend the 2009 Safety Pharmacology Society (SPS) Meeting

Dear Colleagues,

One of the missions of the Safety Pharmacology Society is to support educational exchange and innovation in the fields of Pharmacology, Toxicology, and Physiology. The Academic Outreach Committee, on behalf of the SPS Officers and Board of Directors, would like to invite you, your colleagues, and your students to attend our 9th Annual Meeting on September 15–18, 2009, in the beautiful city of Strasburg, France. For the 2009 meeting, SPS will offer several initiatives to support students and postdoctoral fellows working in the field.

New for the 2009 meeting, we have an opportunity for students or postdoctoral fellows to be more involved with SPS. Starting this year, we are offering up to 8 students/postdoctoral fellows the opportunity to attend a continuing education (CE) course without charge in exchange for assisting with the CE course. In addition, these students/postdoctoral fellows will receive a $200 reduction in the meeting registration. The duties during the CE course include aiding the speakers and attendees, overseeing booklets and materials, etc. This is a great opportunity to get to meet the speakers and attend a CE course. The requirements for the applicants are to be students or postdoctoral fellows at the time of the meeting and that they attend the 2009 meeting. To apply, please send a letter to the academic outreach committee via e-mail to SPS Headquarters. In the letter, please include a short summary of your interest in safety pharmacology, your current research focus, a ranking of the CE courses in the order that you would like to attend, and contact information for a reference to verify your current position as a student or postdoctoral fellow. The letters are due August 1, 2009, and they will be reviewed by the academic outreach committee. The applicants will be notified by August 15 of Safety Pharmacology Society acceptance decisions and CE course assignment. SPS will give preference to the applicant’s requested courses, but may need to assign students to assist with a specific course as needed. For more information on the CE courses offered this year, please check out the descriptions on the meeting Web site.

In addition, we have other initiatives for the 2009 meeting similar to previous years. We are offering discounted meeting registration to students. Furthermore, we will have a breakfast event for student and postdoctoral fellows to meet with representatives from SPS. Do not miss opportunities to support our students and trainees by encouraging them to attend the meeting and the breakfast event. The details of the breakfast event will be sent as we get closer to the meeting.

Please, encourage your student and postdoctoral fellows to apply for the CE course opportunity and register for the student breakfast event.
